Clive Davis’ funeral drew the kind of crowd only a legend like him could pull together — but it’s one specific photo from inside Central Synagogue that’s now got fans buzzing for an entirely different reason.
The music industry lost one of its giants on June 22, 2026, when Clive Davis died at his Manhattan home at age 94. On June 29, the man known as “The Man with the Golden Ears” was honored at a private funeral following a service at Central Synagogue in Manhattan, the synagogue he’d attended for much of his life.

But it was two specific photos that had social media talking the most.
The Photo of Barry Manilow That Stopped Fans in Their Tracks
When Manilow arrived outside the synagogue, cameras caught him in a sharp dark suit, and within hours, comment sections were flooded with reactions to his appearance.

“Manilow … Best Dressed,” one fan wrote. Another replied, “Always!!! Although I imagined it from black it’s fabulous anyway.“
Not everyone agreed. “Barry Manilow looks like a robot look at the hands strange!” one commenter wrote, while another asked, “People don’t use black anymore?“
On a separate post, fans were more openly relieved to see him out. “Glad to see Barry out and about,” one commented. Another added, “Keep getting stronger Barry!” and a third chimed in, “You Mr. Manilow look great!“

On one Instagram post, one commenter seemed to do a double take entirely. “That doesn’t even look like Barry Manilow….and I don’t think Clive was that nice…. Love Whitney Houston forever ❤️❤️” they wrote. Another simply added, “Best dressed Barry Manilow😂.”
Barry Manilow’s Appearance Carried Extra Meaning
That relief makes sense once you think about what Manilow has been through over the past six months. In December 2025, Manilow revealed he’d been diagnosed with a stage-one cancerous tumor in his left lung.
The discovery came almost by accident — after battling bronchitis for weeks, doctors ordered an MRI just to be safe, and that scan caught the tumor early.
“It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early,” Manilow shared in a statement at the time. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor and described his recovery in characteristically upbeat terms: “No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”
