Until now.
I stared at my ruined reflection in the dark laptop screen… then uploaded every file to federal investigators.
Every email. Every contract. Every bank transfer.
When I finished, I closed the computer and finally breathed.
The next morning, I wore a simple black dress and a wide hat to cover what remained of my butchered hair.
The Sterling wedding looked like something out of a movie. Crystal chandeliers hung above hundreds of wealthy guests. Politicians, CEOs, socialites—everyone important was there.
And Chloe loved every second of it.
As she walked down the aisle in her custom white gown, she glanced at me with satisfaction in her eyes.
She thought she had won.
The ceremony began.
Then suddenly—
The massive church doors burst open.
Several investigators in dark suits entered alongside uniformed officers.
The music stopped instantly.
Five hundred guests turned to stare.
Nathan Sterling’s face lost all color.
One investigator stepped forward and announced clearly:
“Nathan Sterling and Chloe Bennett, you are under investigation for financial fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering.”
Gasps exploded across the church.
My mother nearly collapsed into her chair. My father started shouting, “There has to be some mistake!”
But there wasn’t.
The investigators moved straight toward Nathan while cameras and phones appeared everywhere around the room. Guests whispered in shock as officers began escorting him away.
Chloe stood frozen at the altar, her bouquet shaking violently in her hands.
Then her eyes found mine.
And she knew.
